Comforting Scripture

The word of God will always sustain us. More than ever, we have had to lean on our faith to help us through our grieving. From His word comes so much peace. I love to share scripture that has guided us through the good times and the bad. This page will be a continuous work in progress and I'm always open to suggestions! I love to hear what touches other people's hearts! It is my hope that these verses help others as much as they have us.

~ I have found it so comforting lately to read Luke; it's amazing to learn that Jesus was thinking of women like me as he was being led away to his crucifixion! "A large number of women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!' Then "they will say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!" For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?" Luke 23: 27-31 (NIV)

~ One particular night when we were both so sad and beaten down, we were talking about how having hope is so hard to do sometimes and how the day when we might actually have children seems like such a long time to wait. Then a peculiar thing happened. I have an app on my phone that sends me daily Psalms, and it had just then sent me my Psalm for the day. Right after our conversation, mind you. This is what it said:

We Wait in Hope
Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
Psalm 33: 20-22 (ESV)

~The book of Psalms is definitely one of my favorites. Like this one, Psalm 51: 16-17 (NLT):
"You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God"

~"That is why the LORD says, "Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don't tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead." Return to the LORD your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. Who know? Perhaps he will give you a reprieve, sending you a blessing instead of this curse. Perhaps you will be able to offer grain and wine to the LORD your God as before."
Joel 2: 12-14 (NLT)

~"I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15: 14 (NCV)

~"I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, "The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him. The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him."
Lamentations 2: 20-25 (NCV)
